July2013
On our way to the Chesapeake/Delaware (C&D) Canal.  Not sure what happen but I had a glitch with the electrical system over night.  The house batteries fell below 12 VDC shutting everything down – to much of a draw with all the stuff we had on? Most likely.  Fortunately we have two separate starter batteries which fired the main propulsion up effortlessly.  Next stop Delaware City Marina on the other side of the C&D Canal.  The weather was sweet; sunny, no wind, tide and current with us. Arrived in early afternoon – the marina was small but well kept with helpful friendly people.

Heading up the Chesapeake… We got underway at a reasonable hour and all was right with the world. Our destination Fairlee Creek a popular anchorage.   Arriving in the late afternoon it was crowded with people enjoying the 4th of July week/end, so we had plenty of entertainment.  Even so there were still plenty of excellent spots to anchor.  Swab manned the anchor detail and the Admiral supervised… all went well.  We spent the rest of the afternoon swimming and tooling around in the small boat.  To our surprise there was a fireworks display at the entrance to the cove - we had prime seats on the fly-bridge. Not a bad ending to an excellent day.

We departed Virginia Beach at 0 dark 30 – Sea Chantey was scheduled to be splashed at 9:00 AM this morning.  We arrived to find a shiny new stainless steel prop ready to go.  Sea Chantey was in the water and ready to go in no time.  However it was pretty hot- and the pool was to inviting so we decided to stay dockside and depart in the morning.
 Replacement 8" stainless bow prop
Epoxy resin treatment to main prop - might as well since she was out of the water

Bay Bridge Marina let me know the part was on back order and with this being the 4th of July Holiday week - things probably would not happen until the 3rd or 5th.  With no dirt dwelling and our floating home uninhabitable on the hard -the House of Boe offered us a place to stay in Virginia Beach.  Needless to say, a good time was had by all…

I was honored to present Spencer with his graduation certificate as he entered the Coast Guard.  He has joined a long family history of service to this great nation – I am very proud of him.   Master Chief (USCG) Dan Boe and his bride Heidi, Corey Triplett (USN), Samantha Fulgham and her father Pat (ret USN) and several other friends of Spencer were on hand to congratulate him on a job well done.

26 June 2013

I know… I have not been keeping up with the blog very well, but here goes…  We departed Solomon around 10:00 AM and header towards Annapolis – with no bow thruster. We arrived at Bay Bridge Marine on Kent Island – across from Annapolis, MD after a beautiful day on the bay moving approximately 50 miles. Very nice marina – there was a calypso band playing at the open air bar as we dined on the fly bridge.

I spoke with the service manager first thing in the morning - to see if we could resolve the bow thruster issue.  We were hauled by 0830 and no surprising to me the prop itself was missing (you could hear the motor operate and the solenoids click in left and right).  Ironically my uncle Joe experienced the same issue several years earlier in Solomon – King Neptune must be trying to tell the Kelly clan something.  Parts were placed on order, Sea Chantey was left on the hard, we rented a car and off we went to Cape May, NJ.  Our son Spencer would be graduating from Coast Guard Basic Training on Friday 28 June.
Let's see what is going on with that bow non-thruster...
That's not right... isn't there suppose to be a prop in there?
